What Ach na Criche has to offer?
For those that really do like 'a path less travelled' Ach na Criche really is off the beaten track. It is at the tip of the Morvern peninsula which has breathtaking views over Ardnamurchan and Tobermory on Mull. The house sits within a large garden surrounded by ancient oak woodland and has fantastic views over the Sound of Mull, which is just 300 metres from the entrance porch. There are two premium rooms at the front of the house with superking (or twin) beds, sea views, luxuriously equipped en-suite bathrooms (one with shower and one with shower over bath). It is an ideal base for walking, cycling, kayaking and fishing with access to all the facilities of the Drimnin Estate. The varied landscape of the area is a haven for wildlife; otters, wildcats, pine martens, seals, porpoise and eagles are common sights. Find out about the art of making the very best single malt whisky at the new distillery or perhaps your visit will coincide with a concert in the chapel by the shore. To explore further afield try the water taxi to Tobermory for the day.
Great food and relaxation
We offer a full Scottish breakfast (or something lighter if preferred) and cater for any dietary preferences you may have. We invite you to enjoy our delicious [three-course] evening meals, which use many locally sourced ingredients, including Drimnin Estate wild venison, beef, lamb and vegetables. And we can provide packed lunches. Relax in the private guest sitting room with its log burning stove, large screen television with a wide range of DVDs and collection of books and maps about this wonderful part of Scotland. Find the drink of your choice in the guest bar (and, in the not too distant future, a dram of whisky distilled here on the Estate). Alternatively try one of the fine restaurants in Lochaline or Tobermory.
A little about Ach na Criche
Ach na Criche means ‘place of the boundary field’. Situated just on the Drimnin Estate and within the tiny community of Drimnin, it was once a drovers’ inn on the route from Loch Sunart and Doirlinn. In those days it had just four rooms, with only a tiny room at the back for travellers. The house was significantly extended in 1849 when four further rooms were added at the front to enable the widowed Lady Gordon to use it as a temporary home after a fire destroyed much of Drimnin House . The house while still retaining it historic feel has been lovingly renovated and now has spacious facilities for guests.
A little about your hosts (Janine and Keith Drew)
We made the move from Devon a in 2016 and are now enjoying all the west coast of Scotland has to offer.. We have completely renovated the house and are now looking forward to sharing this beautiful home with others who prefer to be off the beaten track, love the coast or wildlife, or have an affinity for outstanding single malt whisky. We will be delighted to help you find the best walks, advise on where to see wildlife, arrange a trip to Mull, or just tell you about the most secluded spots on the coastline in which to relax and soak up the scenery – whatever will make your visit truly memorable.
